A Spoonful of Vinegar = Weight Loss?

Okay. I've tried cutting out sugar, cutting back on fat, even a little exercise (and I stress the word "little"). But lately, it seems nothing I do makes a difference. I just can't seem to lose any weight. So I'm Googling the words "diet" and "weight loss," and I come across this post: Does Apple Cider Vinegar Help You Lose Weight?

Now drinking a few tablespoons of vinegar a day might sound ridiculous to some people. But I'm at the point where I'm game to try anything. I was most intrigued by the mention of the author's 93-year-old grandmother who drank vinegar every day and remained thin and active until the day she died. A small sacrifice to make, I think.

The only thing that gave me pause was the author's note that it was best to buy the organic vinegar with the "mother" floating around in it. These are the "stringy globs" floating around inside. I'm thinking I'll stick with plain old clear apple cider vinegar. No globs for me. If you want to read all about it, head over to Weight Loss Diva's blog.

Why not just put some vinegar and oil...olive oil which is also good for you. On a few pieces of lettuce, you will enjoy it instead of gagging it down. You can even do like a healthy salad for lunch with this combo and you will probably loose weight.

I'm thinking that I would like the "mother-free" vinegar rather than the floating glob type...ack!

The mother-free will do nothing for you. You don't taste it or notice it anyway. The mother is what has all of the good stuff in it. Just thought you should know that there's a good reason why they tell you to use the product with the mother in it.

Thanks granola girl. Guess I'll have to "man" up and try it with the mother.

I noticed my Heinz cider vinegar has a mother in it.
I mix a tablespoon of vinegar, tsp. olive oil and a tsp. of organic honey to put on my salad. I find it hard to beat health wise.

Vinegar can help you to lose weight but I don't count it as one dieting tool since it only affects very small calories in our body.

THanks for sharing those links, now I wonder how much exactly can a spoonful of vinegar help us to lose weight? How effective is it? I think apple is still better since it suppresses your appetite and make you feel not hungry.

I drank vinegar once in my life and it was the beginning of hating it! My mother had cleaned the electric kettle with vinegar. The next morning I wanted an instant coffee and made an awesome one! With milk and sugar and of couse vinegar instead of water...Bläh!

Wow, that is interesting to say the least. I have never heard of drinking vinegar to lose weight. But then again there are some weird remedies out there these days.

I could imagine making myself drink vinegar though. I personally have never even tried it, the smell alone gives me second thoughts, let alone actually putting any in my mouth.

I could see why you would use something like apple cider vinegar as it would have at least some taste to it, but I still don't think that is something that I would try.

Vinegar certainly helps you in loosing weight and keeps you healthy as well...

I think I'm going to have to give this a try. My problem is my mouth is highly sensitive to vinegar and the roof of my mouth becomes swollen if I have vinegar everyday. I guess if this works then it's worth it though.

Hmm, I think I'd much rather eat apples than drink apple cider vinegar. I really like sour stuff as I have a quirky sweet tooth, but vinegar's a bit too much for my palate. In any case, I hope it worked out for you if you went ahead and tried it.

take care...

Wow, for years I have drank up the apple cider/olive oil/salt/pepper slop left over from salads, thinking I was doing something bad because it tasted so good (I know, I'm weird). This is great to know.
I've always been on the thin side(except for a little belly fat) but eaten tons of food. Now I wonder if the vinegar is partially responsible?

Exercise is the best way to reduce weight, but for people like you who don't have time for that, you could use meal replacement programs. I know of people who have lost weight up to 6-7kgs in a three month duration.

I wouldn't drink vinegar by itself, I prefer to mix it with some salad, olive oil and raw onions. I think vinegar does help a bit in weight loss. So taking the vinegar with some salad is a good alternative. Drinking green tea will also help in weight loss.
