If you've read this blog for very long, you know I'm extremely interested in the whole concept of the "digital nomad," the person who travels freely all over the world, working from wherever he or she is at the moment. Technology has made this possible for people today. Everything has come together at this moment in time to make the dream of living the digital nomad lifestyle possible.
There is literally nothing about my job right now that would prevent me from doing it from anywhere in the world. I'm only tied to my location by my children's ages and my unwillingness to uproot them. But I dream of traveling and supporting myself via the computer. If you're interested in becoming a digital nomad also, read Three Paths to Being a Digital Nomad by Philip Brewer at WiseBread.

When I first set out in eCommerce/online marketing I thought that this would be the end result, that I'd travel from country to country armed with my laptop and nothing else. Now that I have kids and great friends I don't want to, although travelling for a weeks at a time is always a good thing. But as for becoming a nomad, I don't think I could handle that...Anyway great blog. Cindy
Great post! I agree with everything you said. The self-managed life is a truly wonderful thing. Punching a time clock for some faceless corporation is not my idea of time well spent.
Hello Lisa, Brilliant post! I am going to be one of these people. WOOT! Our daughter just moved off to college and we are avid sailors, chartered for many years and now our house is on the market and ready to SAIL AWAY! Gotta love technology :)
Cheers!
Christine :)
I really enjoyed reading this! Thank you for sharing your thoughts into this matter. I’m forwarding this URL to my 2 brothers who would love to read this. Cheers
That has been my dream for most of my life. One of the many reasons I wanted to homeschool was because of the freedom to travel where ever and when ever we wanted to. I always figured that it would be the best way to teach kids about geography and national history and culture. I'm on my way to being a nomad, not quite there yet! This was a great post though! I'll be going to that link next!
Really great post, I like your idea and agree with everything you mentioned here. Good work !!
Great post. I just found your blog a couple of weeks ago and have been back several times. Funny that you should post on this b/c this is what I'm doing right now and blogging about it too (www.monkeysjumpingonthebed.blogspot.com). We live in Panama with our two kids, (2 and 5) and I work through the magic of computers! Ha. I'm currently trying to keep a consulting business running at home in Canada via Panama City. This is not always very easy, but there are big benefits. Anyway, if you're interested in the foibles of a mom schlepping her kids overseas then come visit the blog. I know I'll be back here often.:)
Hi Lisa
This is something I've been thinking about lately. I have no children, I don't have a partner. I care about my family but even my mum's told me to go for it.
I've started freelance writing online and though I'm not making a full time income from it for now, I can foresee myself making much more if I work at it. Part of what's pushing me to do that is the thought that I'd be able to write from wherever in the world I happen to be at the time. I like the sound of that kind of freedom.
take care...
