How did you get into transcription and how can I get into it? I've been looking for a way to work from home and we really need to money. I don't want to have to get a babysitter just so i can go work. Do I need to take classes or have anything special?
klweddle, I studied medical transcription, but ended up in general, mainly because I'm a hypochondriac, but also because I like the variety of general. You don't really have to go to school for general. You just need to find a company willing to give a newbie a chance. Check out the WAHM.com message boards. There's a transcription folder there, and it has some stickies at the top that list companies that hire newbies. You probably will have to take a test and pass it. The most important thing about that is to follow directions carefully and listen to the audio over and proof your document before turning it in. Accuracy is a must.

Medical Coding and Billing has good future. ICD 10 is implementing from october 2013. The demand for the medical coders will increase. ICD 9 CM has 15000 Codes and ICD 10 has 150,000. The Payers and Clearing houses need to reformat the ANSI 4010 to ANSI 5010 format. Use of EMRs and ICD 10 will bring much demand for the Certified Coders.
